When you’re just starting out, you don’t know what you don’t know.
Once upon a time, there was a brand strategist (me, in the picture above) who barely knew a thing about branding.
I got a job at a fancy branding agency in Midtown Manhattan, bought the blackest black outfits and brightest red lipstick (NYC dress code) for important client presentations, showed up to my first meeting and realized… I was completely lost.
Over the next several years, I put myself through branding bootcamp, obsessed with learning the tricks of the trade, critiqued daily by industry leaders, and pushed to internalize the ins and outs of branding. I filled notebook after notebook with strategies, frameworks, processes, and best practices. I jotted down random wisdom from mentors and clients. I collected articles, conducted research, and curated tactics and tools. And after years of studying and practicing the art (and science) of branding, I finally knew I was equipped, capable, and—dare I say—an expert at this branding thing.
